Lucy Darke

I've always been drawn to creating spaces that feel as good as they look. As a kitchen designer at our Nolte Kitchens Nottingham showroom, I create spaces that bring people together and feel warm, considered, and individual to each home. Moreover, my background in developing an award-recognised family business gave me a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and quality. As a result, I bring that same level of care and attention to every kitchen I design.

Tell us about your design style and approach?

Overall, my design style centres around warmth and depth, with a focus on layered textures and refined materials. I aim to strike a balance between timeless elegance and modern functionality. Each kitchen should feel inviting, sophisticated, and lived-in rather than overly polished. With new clients, I take the time to understand not just their aesthetic preferences, but how they actually live. This allows me to design kitchens that are beautiful and intuitive. As a result, each one is tailored to how you live. I approach each project collaboratively. The final design should feel personal and considered in every detail. For me, it's about guiding you through the process in a way that feels effortless and enjoyable, while helping you make confident, informed decisions."

What are your core strengths as a kitchen designer?

My strengths lie in interpreting your vision. In turn, I elevate it into a cohesive, high-quality design. I have a strong eye for detail and a natural instinct for combining materials in a way that creates warmth and depth. Above all, I pride myself on delivering a seamless and attentive client experience from first concept through to completion.

Are there specific materials or finishes you love working with?

I'm particularly drawn to rich, tactile materials — natural woods, stone, and soft matte finishes that add depth and character. I often take inspiration from my travels. These subtle influences help create spaces that feel curated, timeless, and unique. Consequently, no two kitchens I design ever look quite the same.

Have you won any awards or certifications relevant to kitchen design?

I've been part of developing a family business that achieved award recognition. This reflects the level of care, quality, and attention to detail I continue to bring into my design work at Nolte Kitchens Nottingham.

What is your favourite Nolte Kitchen range/feature?

It's very difficult to choose, but neoLodge in Blackened Oak is a clear favourite — both visually and practically. In particular, the depth of the finish paired with Nolte's space utilisation options creates kitchens that are genuinely stunning. It's a combination that never fails to impress clients when they see it in person.

What is your best piece of kitchen design advice?

Focus on how you want your space to feel, not just how it looks. A truly successful kitchen balances beauty with functionality. When done well, it should feel effortless, inviting, and completely personal to you. Before you look at door colours or worktop materials, think about how you move through the space. Consider what your kitchen needs to do for you every day.

Any fun facts or hobbies outside of design?

I'm passionate about travel and food — two things that go very well hand in hand. Experiencing different cultures, cuisines, and interiors feeds directly into the way I think about design. Consequently, travel is as much a part of my work as it is my life.
