Bringing Pure Joy into the Heart of Your Home
Dulux has just announced their Colour of the Year for 2025, and it’s an instant mood-lifter: Pure Joy, a vibrant, uplifting yellow that fills our homes with optimism, warmth, and a burst of sunshine. It's not just a colour, but a reminder of the power of design to inspire happiness in our everyday spaces.
With this exciting news, we couldn’t resist imagining how this lively shade could transform one of the most important rooms in the house: the kitchen.
We turned to three of our expert kitchen designers to explore how Pure Joy can be incorporated in fresh, creative ways to suit different styles and tastes.
Bold Meets Neutral: A Contemporary Twist
Matt Kelly, Dual Site Manager at Nolte Küchen Wilmslow and Nolte Küchen Southport, sees Pure Joy as the perfect accent colour for modern kitchens. “With it being such a bold colour, I’d mix it with darker neutrals like black, grey, or blue,” he suggests. The key is balance—using yellow sparingly to enhance, not overwhelm.
Matt envisions using Pure Joy as a splashback to break up a monochrome kitchen. Against sleek black cabinetry, it becomes a focal point that adds warmth and character without compromising the sophisticated feel. Picture the subtle drama of a Nolte Plus kitchen in black, with the vibrant pop of yellow lifting the entire design. It’s contemporary, yet filled with personality.
Timeless Elegance with a Touch of Joy
For Vicky Bratt, Showroom Manager at Nolte Küchen Milton Keynes, Pure Joy evokes a more traditional aesthetic. “I think of classic kitchens when I see yellow. I’d pair it with our Sahara lacquer colour or platinum grey, maybe with light oak wood,” she explains.
This approach blends timeless elegance with modern joy. In a kitchen featuring the Portland Sapphire Grey cabinetry with a Platinum finish, the soft neutral tones balance the brightness of yellow accents. Add light oak wood touches to bring in warmth, and you’ve got a kitchen that feels both grounded and joyful — perfect for a family home that values tradition but isn’t afraid to embrace the new.
Retro Revival with a Modern Flair
Mike Richards, Showroom Manager at Nolte Küchen Exeter, sees yellow through a retro lens. “Yellow feels like a retro colour to me,” he says, recalling a recent project for a client with a 1970s-style home.
For this design, Mike paired the 937 White Flair cabinets with volcanic oak edges and panels, adding oak D handles for a vintage feel. The retro vibe is amplified with orange window frames—a bold choice that Pure Joy would complement beautifully. The result is a kitchen that feels nostalgic yet refreshed, with a seamless blend of vintage and modern elements.
Incorporating Pure Joy into Your Kitchen:
Our Verdict
What’s exciting about Pure Joy is its versatility. Whether you’re drawn to sleek modern designs, timeless elegance, or a nostalgic retro aesthetic, this uplifting yellow can be adapted to fit your unique style. As our designers have shown, it’s all about how you pair it—with dark neutrals for contrast, soft tones for balance, or complementary retro hues for a bold statement.
